The Veterans Society

In 1952, Mr. O.T. Walters presented a trophy - The O.T. Cup - to the club to be played for by older gentleman members of the club, and it was duly played for on the 9th October 1952.  At an informal meeting after the competition, it was decided to form a Veterans' Society, subject to approval by the club. This permission was duly received in a letter from the Secretary dated 28th October 1952. Mr. Walters became the first President of the Society.

Membership is open to all male members of the club aged 55 and over and remains stable at about 120;  annual social events include the Summer Dinner and Christmas Lunch, both with Ladies, the Annual Dinner and the Presentation Dinner. A number of trophy competitions are held during the year (see below) as is a Society golfing away day and a regular weekly roll-up competition in the winter months. Home and away matches are also played in the season against the Veterans/Senior sections of  eight other clubs.

In 1994 the Society was given permission to stage a Seniors' Open Competition. Its success was assured when in the first year some 160 entries were received from thirteen different clubs, and a substantial contribution was made to the Golf Club. Succeeding yeas have proved equally successful.
