The Golf Administrators Outside Cardiff Golf Club

Whilst there have been, over the years, many members willing to play their part in the administration and running of their Club, not may have ventured forth to utilise their skill and expertise further afield i.e. County, National or International.

The exceptions are: -

LAURENCE H GODFREY

Laurence’s introduction into golf administration commenced when he became a junior partner in the accountancy firm of W J Fooks - Bill himself had been the Honorary Secretary/Treasurer of Glamorgan County Golf Union for many years.

Laurence was elected to the committee of the County Union in 1964, aged 29. Two years later he himself became the Honorary Secretary/Treasurer, a role that he held until 1976. During his time as Hon Sec he had a hand in the formation of the Channel League, which transformed County golf matches from being far too friendly into a competitive league.

He took on the Secretaryship of the newly formed league, in addition to retaining the Treasurership of the Union, but in 1978 was installed as the Chairman of Glamorgan County Golf Union in its’ 50th Jubilee Year.
